In Part 2 of this 5 part series, Sanjeev Agrawal discusses why perioperative leaders find it hard take the right actions if they base their decision making on the traditional metric for right-sizing blocks “Block Utilization”. It is not just mathematically flawed but also leads to the wrong answers.
There is a far better metric instead - “Collectable Time” that identifies truly reusable / re-purposable portions of time that if taken away would not hurt the block owner’s practice and yet open up time for the OR to reallocate, attract new surgeons or close ORs.
After attending this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe why block utilization is a flawed metric.
- Define a more effective metric to use to identify repurposable portions of time called “Collectable Time”
- Calculate “Collectable Time” using the methods described in the webinar.
